Summary
Ezekiel Harrington is a noted gallery owner late in nineteenth-century Philadelphia. He encounters a cadre of striving artists who challenge the way Ezekiel sees life. Among them is a rough Bohemian prostitute of tremendous talent. Ezekiel hates her, yet can't get her out of his mind. He falls in love with the forbidden woman, whom he longs to change, but she refuses him. To woo her to his way, he takes her to Paris. There he sees her in a wrenching scene that changes him forever
